Michael’s Return/Neon Youth Theatre

Hello all, presenter Michael here (not to be confused with Mike from our alternate show).

First, I bring good news for fans of me, so good news to everyone in the world: As of the next show I’ll be back on-air, live, with the rest of the gang, which is fantastic. I hear that they were becoming emotionally distressed without my calming presence. I think they’re just needy.

Anyway, this blog post is about where Pip and I went on Sunday: We went to the Croft Street Community Centre to talk to the Neon Youth Theatre about their upcoming performance of ‘Wear What you Will’ – a modern take on Shakespeare’s hilarious play, Twelfth Night. I studied the Shakespeare piece for my A-Level English exams, and thoroughly enjoyed it. The Neon Youth version is a completely original interpretation, written and performed by the theatre. From what we saw while we were there, it looked to be a very impressive undertaking, which is all the more reason to get down to the LPAC this week for the performances of the show!

While we were there, we also discussed how the group is in grave danger – funding cuts for cultural organisations are hitting theatre groups like this one very hard, but the group’s members are coming up with their own ways of keeping the performances going. They will be taking part in the Lincoln 10k run, and also doing a sponsored silence (if you heard the show, you’ll be amazed that they even considered this). This is community spirit at its finest, and I love it!

See you all in two weeks.

Michael
